About

Julian mainly writes this blog when on holiday.  Fortunately, he tries to holiday for as many weeks of the year as is possible.

Julian started to write this blog on a month-long mystery road trip with his family in 2010.  Completely contrary to every other holiday they have ever taken (where Lorna has researched and booked everything), Julian booked everything …in one evening. Lorna plays the part of long-suffering wife; Tilly the part of a 12-year-old who is deprived of horses; and Nancy the part of 10-year-old with a mission to wind up her sister.

Aside from holidays, Julian likes films, bridge and family activities.

Films – when they lived in London, Julian and Lorna would see 200 films every year. Moving out of London and having young children restricted movie watching for many years, but the installation of a cinema in their home and the widespread availability of all films on DVD has meant that they can now catch up on what they have missed.

Bridge – Julian likes to play bridge with his partner Ashok.

Family life – Up until December 2011, they lived in Surrey, England. They shared their home with many animals: Bluebell the Dog, Broccoli the Cat, Malory the Bearded Dragon, Mooney the Gerbil, numerous chickens, shoals of fish and – from time to time – doves.

In December 2011, Julian and his family moved to Hong Kong where they are enjoying learning more about Asia.

Thanks Julian for letting us follow along with your fun adventure. Truly an education – we’re taking notes for our next visit, whenever that happens to be… thanks again and best wishes to you, Lorna, Tilly and Nancy from all the Sykes’s.
